This sounds like an amazing year! I also absolutely loved Ljubljana – I’d definitely live there! I was also disappointed by Vienna! Glad you guys made it home safe! xx

    1. Thanks, Emily! Yes, Ljubljana was such a fun highlight and good to know I’m not alone on my Vienna thoughts. Hope you’re doing well!

  2. Loved this! Loved reading your thoughts…helps that I trust your taste and judgement! Great to have it summarized, thanks for the fun read! xo

  3. I enjoyed reading this post but I was so disappointed that you didn’t like Venice. I waited so long to get there and it ticked every box, beautiful hotel, fantastic history, no crowds (apart from around St Marks square which is to be expected) I had the same feelings with Kuala Lumpar, everyone loves it but I couldn’t wait to leave. It is always assumed that travellers love everywhere they have ever visited so it’s good that you have been authentic about your feelings on Venice and Vienna. We can’t all be the same can we

    1. Thanks for checking it out, Angie! I didn’t mind Venice. I had heard enough bad things about it that I went in with low expectations. So I found things I both loved and hated about it. I think Colin was more disappointed because he went in with higher expectations than I did. Yes, very good that people can have different experiences in the same place. And so nice that you could enjoy Venice without crowds!

Love this post, along with all the bright pictures. I love that Tuscany made it onto your favorite places visited; I just read Frances Mayes Under the Tuscan Sun and what a beautiful story of life in Tuscany with that rich olive green! šŸ™‚

Best and worst highlights are always interesting to look back on, and I loved seeing them from two different pairs of eyes.

    1. Thanks! And thank you for always leaving such thoughtful comments; I really appreciate it! I read Under the Tuscan Sun last year and it definitely came alive for me when visiting.

It sounds like you had such an amazing year! I’d love to go to some of the places you went to – Salzburg looks beautiful! I’ve been to Prague, Vienna and Budapest (and London many times as I live in the UK) and my favourite was Budapest, I’d love to go there again!

    1. We really did have an amazing year! Budapest is awesome and I hope you make it to Salzburg one (safe) day soon!

Just incredible, I wish I could travel more. I love how you’ve set the post up, both answering, if only we could hear Ellie too aha. The pizza looks, amazing, the best I’ve had was in Barcelona, just off the Sagrada Familia so tasty!
I’d love to visit Austria, hope I’m not disappointed to whenever I do get to go.

    1. Thanks, Shelly! Haha would have been hilarious if I included Ellie’s perspective too. Anywhere with a comfy bed has her vote. Hope you make it to Austria in the safer future – beautiful country!

I love this post! I really appreciate when people talk about the reals things – what they liked, what doesn’t, what they expected and what they got! Your experience in Europe was amazing and I think people can learn a lot from you!
Thank you so much for letting me know you better and learn more about different destinations! ♄

    1. Thank you, Sandra! I really appreciate it šŸ™‚

This is so cool living abroad & using it as a vantage point to travel the rest of Europe! Really sensible timing to tick Europe off before we officially leave the EU as well! I’ve probably started on the wrong side of the planet in Aus/NZ haven’t I!

I love that you’ve written about things you didn’t like as well! A lot of travel blogs tell people everything is amazing when in actual fact there are a lot of stresses, fails and disappointments involved.

    1. Thanks so much, Jamie! Yes, we had a blast living in Prague and trying to see as much of Europe as we could. Definitely true that many travel blogs gloss over the negative sides, which I think are important to point out. Off to check out your blog and learn more about your adventures!

  11. What an amazing experience! I visited Prague at Christmas time in 2022 and loved it!
