  1. This has been in my list for a long time too! I heard that the hidden gem of Lake Bohinj is the place to stay instead of Lake Bled. I hadn’t heard of Ljubljana, and I can see why it captured your heart! It is oh so dreamy! Great suggestions especially for first timers to Slovenia.

    1. Thanks, Renee! I hope you make it to Slovenia when we safely can and enjoy it all.

  2. What an excellent guide, and a great insight into Slovenia. I really don’t know that much about it but it sure is pretty. The view from Lake Bled castle is amazing. I’d love to do a driving holiday around here, I’m so glad you got a chance to explore it before you had to leave

    1. Thanks so much, Emma. Definitely a great country for a road trip!

  3. I really enjoyed reading about your trip to Slovenia. I love the castles and dragon bridge. Super fun. Great tip on visiting the less popular lake instead. All the food looks yummy.

    1. Thanks so much, Leeanne! Yes, Slovenia is a super cool place with lots going on.

Ok first of all that birthday lunch burger looked amazing!!!

And I got to be with Colin here I think I mixed it up with Slovakia in the past LOL, but have to be honest have never had Slovenia on my radar but looks like quite an awesome place to spend a week long trip at.

    1. Thanks, Gus! I will pass that onto Colin as yes, the burgers were awesome, and he’ll be glad to hear he’s not the only one who wasn’t aware of Slovenia. He also tends to mess up Monaco/Morocco!

  5. You’ve spurred me to add Slovenia to my list, though I can’t say I’d ever thought much about the country before. (Shame on me!) Also, thank you for writing a travel post when no one is writing travel posts (mainly because no one can travel, I know). Though the travel restrictions are still an issue for most people across the globe, it’s refreshing to read about voyages and fun and to dream of the future, when we can all travel again.

    1. Thanks, Leslie! Slovenia is still under the radar but I’m glad it’s on yours now. Yes, certainly one of those “future” posts we can hopefully put to use one safe day soon!

  6. Oh wow! So many stunning places! Lake Bled is definitely on my wishlist, but I didn’t know much about Slovenia other than that, so thank you for the inspiration! I love the sound of taking a drive to another country in a matter of hours!

    1. Thanks, Justine! Yes, Lake Bled was my first intro to Slovenia too and then I heard about Ljubljana and Lake Bohinj. So much to discover!

Really excellent guide Riana. Slovenia (not Slovakia 😉) is long on my list. Some great tips here such as where to stay, and to eat in the castle In Bled.

    1. Thanks so much, John! Hope you enjoy when you make it there!

  8. Slovenia has been on my east and south Europe road trip plan for two years now. I always planned to explore the country in speed mode aka 3 days, but it looks like I should reconsider my plan. Lake Bohinj looks great and that view from the castle restaurant? Just wow.

Love this post (as always), but please stop messing with my travel plans. I love that you do, but I have to rewrite my trip list whenever I read once of your posts. And somehow my trip length also extends by at least 3 days… If I end up broke in the middle of Slovenia, I am so blaming you.

    1. Thanks, Steph! Haha I’m so sorry for ruining your travel plans. Slovenia is definitely a place you could spend a few weeks exploring but I think even a few days would give you a nice taste!

Slovenia has never been on my radar, but wow it looks so pretty and charming! I would love to go to Ljubjlana Castle one day.

    1. Thanks, Hannah! Hope you make it there one day 🙂

  10. Awesome guide! I’ve wanted to visit Slovenia since I first heard about it five years ago. It looks stunning, so I’d be right there with you choosing Slovenia as my country I need to go to. Sounds like an awesome trip, and I’m glad you got to go before coming back to Canada!

    1. Thanks, Brooklyn! Yes, Slovenia had been on my list for a while too. Hope you make it one safe day soon!

  11. That’s such a thorough itinerary! I haven’t made it to Slovenia yet but it’s on my list after seeing everyone’s pretty pictures online. Lake Bled looks absolutely stunning but to be honest all of the scenery is pretty amazing. And the view from the Ljubljana Castle is just wow!

    1. Thanks, Dominika! Yes, it is a beautiful spot. The scenery was my favourite part for sure.

  12. I spent a couple days in Ljubljana when I was interrailing around Europe and I loved it! It definitely is a fantastic city for walking and the free walking tour was excellent! I would love to go back and explore more of the country once I am able to drive so that I can reach good hiking spots.

    1. Thanks, Sarah! Yes, would love to go back and explore more.

I’ve just seen this post as I noticed you said you were there in March, which is when we’ve just visited and I wasn’t sure before I went whether it was the wrong time of year to go. Like you we had viewpoints at Lake Bled completely to ourselves, it was amazing. I’m jealous you got the reflections though!! That’s the only thing that was missing with our trip hehe. Such a gorgeous place regardless, I really, really loved Slovenia and would like to go back with more time like your trip.

    1. Thanks for checking out the post! So glad you loved Slovenia. I hope we both get to go back soon!
