  1. I would have to agree with you on visiting these places in the fall (or as we in Europe say, Aurumn, lol).

I travel a lot ib Europe in Spring or Autumn as I hate the huge Summer crowds in eg Greece or Spain, the weather bearable (beware of rain at both times so pack an umbrella or waterproof jacket) and the prices for hotels etc much cheaper. You can often get good weather for those open-air visits in Autumn.

Never been to Nuremburg and that photo looks beautiful – menatal note myself to add it onto the list for Germany!

Be aware that Autumn in Europe in the north eg Finland (colder) can be so different to the same time in the south eg Cyprus or Malta (warmer and almost like Summer). I did a lot of southern Europe in Autumn and had gorgeous weather. Nice selection of places in your article.Glad that you got to Octoberfest as that is a real seaonal winner and great tip to overnight it out of Munich for a cheaper price. with a short train ride into the city.

    1. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment, Barry! My middle name is actually Autumn, so I too prefer that version (but use “fall” more often in my daily life in Canada). Great note about how much the weather varies across the continent in fall. And I hope you get to visit Nuremberg!

We hope we can make it back to Europe before the year ends but definitely have Prague on our list for 2022!

    1. That’s awesome! I hope you enjoy Prague when you get there!

  3. I love the fall, and traveling around then even more so. Europe has some amazing places to visit and loving these recommendations. I really want to visit Nuremberg as I’m a total history geek, but Vienna is super high on my list too

    1. It’s my favourite time to travel! Hope you enjoy Nuremberg and Vienna when you get to them!

  4. You are giving me some serious European wanderlust with this list. I love travelling in the shoulder season and would welcome returning to many of these places or visiting Budapest- the only one I haven’t been to yet.

    1. Shoulder season is the best! Ah I hope you make it to Budapest one day – such an awesome city!

Great post! I remember when I studied abroad from August to December 2015. The UK and Europe was so pretty, and cold, during this time of year. While I didn’t like the weather that much, the scenery was stunning and definitely worth another trip during that time of year.

    1. Thanks! Yeah it’s definitely helpful to head south as it begins to get cold in Europe. But glad the scenery was worth it!

  6. We have been to most of these places but never in the fall. Great list. We loved Budapest and Prague. Amsterdam was a long time ago but still have good memories of it.
