  1. My wedding was for my Mom! I had fun but I really didn’t care about the details except my flowers and my dress. Everyone is different!

    1. Absolutely! It’s so interesting to hear from people about what part of their wedding was most important to them. Thanks so much for reading, Jenn. I really appreciate it!

Love this Boo, it’s so you and Colin and so sensible, yet full of romance because it’s all about ‘your love’ and future together. xo

    1. Thanks, Moo! Since working with YH&M I’ve gotten to see some really romantic elopements and not just the “running off to Vegas” kind. Glad you’re into the idea too!

  3. Love this!! At the end of the day, it’s all about you and Colin! I’d love to have a low cost wedding and then a year long travel honeymoon! Ahahaha

    1. Haha thanks, Zo! And a year long honeymoon sounds like the dream!

I’m currently in the process of planning my wedding, and LOVED reading this! We’ve been noticing a lot of planning a wedding is what other people say you “should” do but in the end of the day there is no rule book! And you get to plan what’s special to you!

    1. Thanks so much for reading, Steph! Absolutely agree – it’s all about what is right for you two. All the best on your wedding planning!

Your dream wedding sounds amazing. I don’t want big one either, with fancy and expensive decor, people I never talk to… I want our families and close friends in a lovely place somewhere, having delicious lunch, lots of laughter and no preasure. I do want gorgeous dress and a photographer to catch all those moments, but I don’t mind skipping on a cake, lots of florals and things like that.

    1. Thanks so much for reading! Yes, exactly what you’re saying sounds awesome. I want to be able to fit around one big table with my closest loved ones and actually be able to talk to them. And a gorgeous dress and great photographer certainly wouldn’t hurt!

I totally agree with you about the how important it is to focus on a meaningful ceremony and a lifetime marriage. My husband and I wrote our ceremony outline and vows and it was probably what we spent the most amount of time on. We did almost all the work for our small wedding and it still felt all consuming!! It was so much work. Our only really large expense was photos – good photographers are quite expensive. Our ceremony was on a beach (cost $40) and reception was 1-2 hours in a barn. I hope you can find the perfect elopement situation and it’s great how you’ve thought it all out like this! 🙂

    1. Thanks so my for reading and sharing your thoughts. Your wedding sounds beautiful! So awesome that you spent so much time on your ceremony and vows. Thanks for your well wishes!

  7. Your dream wedding sounds beautiful and intimate! We had a destination wedding in Saint Lucia for many of the reasons you mentioned above. On Long Island, weddings can double that 35k you’re mentioning 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ We wanted something small (we had 14 people) and to just be by the beach. You are limited with how much you can personalize it but it was definitely enough! We had a backyard wedding back home that sounded similar to your idea, small, getting ready together, and just celebrating! I hope you guys get to have the day you dream of one day 💕💕

    1. Thanks so much, Tori! 14 people on the beach in Saint Lucia sounds so perfect. And the backyard wedding? Best of both worlds! Thank you so much for your sweet words 🙂

  8. This has sealed the deal for me. Ive always dreamt of a huge big white wedding as a young girl but reality is we’d be spending money to keep other people happy on OUR day.
With the savings we will have THE BEST honeymoon instead 🙌🏻

    1. Thanks so much for reading, Kerri! I hope you have an amazing day and even better honeymoon!

  9. This is going to sound silly, but part of me wants to get married just so i can live out my wedding music playlist fantasy 🙈 there are a couple of songs i have saved that i wish i could walk down the aisle to or have my first dance to. An equipment would be a perfect way to do that haha

    1. Alannah Murphy says:

Omg auto correct changed elopment to equipment lol

    2. Thanks so much for checking out the post and commenting, Alannah. And that’s not silly at all! Music is so important and can really make a memory. And you could definitely still have an aisle walk and first dance with an elopement!

  10. I just found your blog and have been perusing a few of them. I love your writing style, cleaver, witty and informative! I too love to travel and have done quite a bit myself. Mostly Europe, having been to Germany many times to visit family and also participated in an exchange program in high school, Italy, Mexico (participated in a language immersion program for 3 weeks!), Venezuela twice and backpacking all over Europe for 3 months during the summer during college break, (traveled to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, the principality of Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, The Netherlands) and I have been to Canada a few times, visiting Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria. Would love to come back to Canada and see Alberta and the lovely Canadian Rockies. Have done lots of traveling all over the USA including Alaska and Hawaii (twice to Hawaii )
My husband and I eloped in Las Vegas! He was attending and presenting at a Mathematics conference in Vegas and I had never been there before so I said I was coming along too! The conference was in November. We had been engaged since July of that year and hadn’t really planned anything yet. As we were walking up and down the Vegas strip we kept getting all these coupons and brochures for weddings and chapels etc.! So after the 5th one we decided it was a sign and we said why not?! So we did! Several months later we did have a reception for family and friends! We were happy with our decision and it’s been 11 years now!

    1. Thanks so much for checking out my blog, Patti! I really appreciate it. Sounds like you are very well-travelled. Despite living in Canada most of my life, I still have yet to spend time in Alberta and the rockies! And sounds like you had an awesome spontaneous wedding in Vegas. That’s definitely my style!
