  1. You’re such an inspiration Boo! I used to love to read for pleasure, engrossed in a book I didn’t want to put down, and it was also a good way to wind down the night before bed time. After the early stages of parenting (with tremendous pleasure of course!), and the start of a career climb when I went back to work, there just wasn’t time for pleasure reading and I was too exhausted to read at night. After that, going back to school as an adult, 3 times in the spread of 3 decades, made me not want to pick up a book at all. But lately I’ve been asked by a few people what books I have read lately/recently and also it is still one of the best ways to wind down for sleep. I haven’t ventured there yet, but reading your blog has inspired me to search out my first book in a long time…Thank you! 💕

    1. Aww thanks, Moo! Happy to help you find a book if you need any recommendations.

  2. My most recent read was “City of Girls” by Elizabeth Gilbert. So good! I loved how she teleported you to New York City in the 1940s. And her characters are real, dynamic women. They have sex, they drink, they know how to have a good time, they talk about what makes a good friend. It’s so real. Definitely my favorite Elizabeth Gilbert book! It was a nice way to “take a virtual trip” while quarantined. Definitely looking to read “Untamed” next!

    1. Oh I’ve heard great things about City of Girls. I usually don’t like historical fiction but I think I need to make the exception for Liz Gilbert. Will have to pick that one up. Thanks, Martha!

  3. Oooh fab roundup of books you’ve read! This is probably one of the most detailed roundups I’ve ever come across! I loved This Is Going To Hurt – so funny. I’d recommend his Christmas themed book too. I’ve wanted to read Becoming for so long! Have you watched the Netflix documentary?

    1. Thanks, Jenny! I had heard Adam Kay wrote another book so will have to go and find that one. And I started the Becoming documentary but haven’t finished it yet. Thank you for reminding me!

  4. Kelly Diane says:

Wow you’ve read so many great books. I definitely haven’t read as much as I thought I would during lockdown. Good luck with your reading goal, I’m looking forward to hearing how you get on.

I’ve definitely been reading more this year than I have last year! I haven’t read any of the ones on your list but I’ll be sure to check them out!

    1. Yes, I think a lot of people have been reading more during lockdown, which is cool. Happy reading!

  6. Great round up and what a diverse selection of books! The only one I recognise (and have also read) is Adam Kay’s book, which was brilliant: funny and heart-rending all in one. I”ll have to check out some of the others on your list, thank you for the recommendations! Lisa x

    1. Thanks, Lisa! Adam Kay’s book was really funny and emotional; I’m looking forward to reading his other one.

I loved This is Going to Hurt – such an eye-opener! I’ve been reading so much more in lockdown than I would normally and so far I’ve read 24 books this year! I’m hoping to continue reading as much for as long as possible!

    1. Yes, that was a great read! Congrats on reading 24 books so far. That’s awesome!

  8. Evie Braithwaite says:

Ah this is such an incredible round-up! I’ve been meaning to read more non-fiction, so will be making a note of some of these! I started listening to The Only Plane in the Sky at the start of lockdown, but had to put it on pause because I found it so emotional. Will definitely give it another go! I also LOVED Over the Top by JVN, the audiobook was amazing. Fab post x

    1. Thanks so much, Evie! Yes, The Only Plane in the Sky is a super emotional read. Very tough to get through. And great idea to listen to JVN’s book. Must have been so cool to hear him read it!

  9. As someone who has only just got back into reading, I am definitely going to bookmark this page and come back to it when I’m looking for something new, as all of your little reviews are fab! Setting an alarm to set out a time to read is a great way to make sure you take the time out do it rather than putting it off and putting it off xx

    1. Thanks, Hannah! I only got back into reading last year so it’s pretty new for me too. Hope you’re reading something great!

  10. I’m currently reading Untamed and I’m really liking it so far! A book I’ve heard a lot about which happens to be on your list is Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, and I’m glad you liked it! I’ll be adding it to my TBR list.

    1. Glad you’re enjoying Untamed. I really liked that one! Enjoy Lori’s book too!

Amazing post! Thank you for all of the recommendations! I have been reading a lot more recently which I’m very happy about!

    1. Nice! I only got back into reading last year and it’s been great.

  12. Loved seeing your 2020 reading list! I really need to read Becoming by Michelle Obama, can’t believe I’ve not got it yet! x

    1. Thanks, Tiffany! Yes, I was surprised I hadn’t read Becoming yet either. It’s a great read! Have also heard good things about the audio book, if you’re into audio books, since Michelle herself narrates.

Wow – 21 books… that’s amazing! I really need to catch up on my reading. I love to read psychological thrillers, romance, and self-help books. I think it’s a great idea to try reading new genres. I’ll check out some of these books that you recommend. Thank you!

    1. Thanks! Those aren’t usually genres I read but I do need to branch out more. Last year I read The Silent Patient, which is a great psychological thriller. I think The Bride Test is a good romance one too!

  14. You’ve read so many books already! I’m struggling just to read one right now lol. I hope to even come close to catching up to you lol

    1. Aw thanks! No worries about catching up. I struggled hard with reading for many years. Before 2019, I had been working on the same book for three years!

  15. I need to pick up some new books to read! xx

    1. Hope you find some good ones!

  16. Wow, you have read a tonne of books this year so far! I don’t think I have read any on your list, so I will have to bookmark this post for when I need reading inspiration and a new book to read. I love a good crime fiction book, but I would like to read a few other genres, which you have on this list. I’ve read lots in the series by JD Kirk – DCI Logan series this past year, and I am really happy I found this author and series.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Aimsy xoxo

    1. Thanks, Aimsy! I’ve read some true crime but not a lot of crime fiction. Will have to look into that series!

  17. I have so many books on my TBR it is a little intimidating x

    1. Same! I often find myself getting lost in adding new ones to my list instead of trying to get any off by actually reading!

  18. Katherine says:

I love your list. I’ve been meaning to read Catch and Kill and Untamed. Inheritance by Dani Shapiro and The Girl Behind the Door by John Brooks are two memoirs that I think you will enjoy. The Girl Behind the Door will likely be made into a film. More Than Love by Natasha Gregson Wagner gives great insight into Natalie Wood. Small Fry by Lisa Jobs pulls back the layers of what Steve Jobs was really like behind closed doors. I’ve also enjoyed Emily Giffin’s books.

    1. Thanks, Katherine! I will add your books to my list. Really appreciate the recs! I have enjoyed Emily Giffin too!

  19. Sophie Wentworth says:

I like the idea of a mid-year reflection and setting some new goals for the end of the year. I’ve read about 40 so far this year and I’m very ashamed to say I’ve only read 3 or 4 of them since lockdown started, the focus just isn’t there at the minute. I never really pay attention to my authors’ race or gender, I should probably look into that more! x

    Sophie

    1. Wow, awesome that you’ve gotten so much reading done this year! But definitely makes sense that reading would slow during lockdown. It’s a tough time, mentally. I hope you get back into it when the time is right! I also never gave any thought to race or diversity of authors until this year but it has been very eye-opening.
